Shift Hockey, a small Chicago company that sells its own sticks direct to players, runs the pro shop on the top floor of Johnny’s IceHouse West on Madison Street. The rink opened in 2010 and was the Blackhawks’ practice home until 2018; today it is a busy adult and youth hockey rink on the Near West Side.
The shop is a one-person operation, so its hours change from week to week and the rink asks players to book a time before coming up for a sharpening. Shift also sells sharpening subscriptions for a single player or a whole family on its website.
If the counter is closed, Gunzo’s on West Madison is about a mile east, and the rink’s heated garage has indoor parking with free street parking around the building.
