Dartmouth Sportsplex since 1982, Zatzman Sportsplex since 2019
Zatzman Sportsplex stands on the site of the Dartmouth Memorial Rink, a 1950 arena that burned down on 16 May 1974. Ground was broken for the replacement in March 1981, Dineen Construction built it for CA$7 million, and the Dartmouth Sportsplex opened in 1982.
The arena seats 3,000 for hockey and 3,500 for stage events. Over the years it has been home ice for junior, senior, minor and high school hockey teams, and the complex also holds a 25-metre, eight-lane pool used by the Dartmouth Whalers and Dartmouth Crusaders swim clubs. Its biggest hockey weeks were the 2004 IIHF World Women's Championship, co-hosted with the Halifax Metro Centre, and the men's and women's hockey tournaments of the 2011 Canada Winter Games, played here from 11 to 27 February.
The Dartmouth Sportsplex closed in early 2017 for a major renovation and expansion. It reopened in February 2019 as the Zatzman Sportsplex, renamed after a donation from the Zatzman family in honour of the late Joseph Zatzman, a businessman and former mayor of Dartmouth.
