Built to replace the open 1960 rink; first sod turned in August 2009.
Currently out of season The Sportarena's page says the ice hall is open 365 days a year and asks visitors always to check its online occupancy plan: general skating, open to everyone (hockey and skating together), appears there only as slots between club training and games, and those slots change from week to week, so no weekly timetable is listed here. Checked on 4 October 2026. Official schedule update
Adelboden's open-air Kunsteisbahn was built in 1960 and had grown old by the mid-2000s. Backers from the curling and ice hockey clubs weighed seven possible sites and settled on the municipality's own Norro-Matte, planning a leisure and sports centre for curling, ice hockey, climbing and bowling. A limited company was founded in December 2007, and the first sod was turned ten days after the decisive vote of 16 August 2009, with autumn 2010 as the opening target.
The result is the Freizeit- und Sportarena, backed by more than 1,300 shareholders. The ice hockey club EHC Adelboden trains its youth teams there and takes part in the yearly Swiss Ice Hockey Day, and the EHC and the Curling Club Adelboden each have a seat on the company's board. Figure-skating training also runs in the hall, and the ice is kept open all year round.
