Amersfoortse IJsvereniging: the Rubensbaan, a spray-ice track with music and koek en zopie

Public skating at Rubensbaan (Amersfoortse IJsvereniging): the next 7 days

Currently out of season The Amersfoortse IJsvereniging's Rubensbaan (a combined ice and inline track at Rubensstraat 70) has no ice at the moment: the club's natural-ice page says that all current ice news and opening times appear on its home page, and that the rink is not open as long as the home page does not say 'de ijsbaan is open'. Since 2018 the club sprays the track in frost instead of flooding it, so an ice floor can form after one night of hard frost; visitors who are not members or friends of the Rubensbaan pay the full ticket. No sessions are listed here. Checked 11 October 2026. Official schedule update

A combined ice and inline track in Amersfoort that is sprayed into an ice rink after a single hard frost

The Rubensbaan is the combined track of the Amersfoortse IJsvereniging, AIJV, in the Rubensstraat. Because winters are getting milder, the club no longer floods the track in winter: with enough night frost it sprays the track, so an ice floor forms faster, a thinner floor on asphalt that one night of hard frost can make.

Skating on the Rubensbaan is again and again a cheerful, thoroughly Dutch experience, complete with music and koek en zopie. The track is opened for AIJV members and Friends of the Rubensbaan, who number more than 1700, and members skate free while their housemates pay a much reduced rate.

Other visitors are also welcome during an ice period but pay the full ticket. During the natural-ice period you can also have your skates sharpened by AIJV's experienced sharpeners' guild.
