The Netherlands' fastest natural-ice rink: IJsclub Vooruitgang in Ammerstol, founded in 1893

IJsclub Vooruitgang was founded on 13 January 1893 and began as a true village ice club, but it has grown into an association known to skaters far beyond Ammerstol. Its facilities are a 200 metre and a 400 metre track, both made of concrete.

Since the new rink came into use in 2013 the club has usually been one of the first natural-ice rinks to open to the public, many times among the first in the Netherlands and sometimes the very first. According to the statistics of the Stichting Schaatsseizoen it is the fastest natural-ice rink in the country.

When the skates go back in the grease the tracks change function and the blades give way to wheels: in the warmer months the facilities are used extensively for inline skating.
