A district ice palace named after the hockey forward Viktor Shuvalov
The Shuvalov Ice Palace in Atyashevo was opened in November 2011 by the head of the Republic of Mordovia, N. I. Merkushkin. It is named after the famous hockey player Viktor Grigorievich Shuvalov, a native of the village of Nabornye Syresi in the Atyashevo district.
Shuvalov is often called a forward from a legend. He was among the main creators of the historic victory of Soviet hockey and a leader of the national team that first won Olympic gold in 1956, and the palace's page credits the trio of Babich, Shuvalov and Bobrov with the most weighty contribution to those victories.
Today the palace hosts training for the sports school in hockey and short track, and inter-district hockey tournaments for junior and adult teams. Mass-skating sessions are held on the ice, and skaters come from several districts.
