A 2.9 hectare natural-ice rink in Baarn, with a clubhouse moved from a sports park

The Stichting Baarnse IJsbanen has for decades met the need of Baarn, and many people from the wider region, to skate on natural ice. Its site covers 2.9 hectares, with the clubhouse taking up only a small part of it. The foundation owns the building, while the ground is leased from the municipality of Baarn.

The building once served as a day-care centre and stood on the sports park a few hundred metres away; with the help of volunteers it was taken apart and rebuilt on the present site, on the concrete slabs it had originally stood on. It has two large rooms and four smaller ones and a 200 m2 terrace beside it, and volunteers mow the grounds weekly from April to October.

For the future the foundation wants natural-ice skating to remain possible while most of the site is developed for multifunctional use, including a roller-skating track.
