IJsclub Iisnocht skates on De Wite Mar, a forest lake in the woods of Beetsterzwaag on the Poostweg, reached by the Hemrikerpaed. The club says it has 135 years of experience and about 800 members.
In 1993 the club's old wooden hut went up in flames, and two sea containers were put in place as a base. The club has recently got a new base at the rink. A 160-metre jetty was opened on a Saturday, handy for putting on skates and just as good for walkers.
The real work starts around mid-October, when the water level of the Witte meer is pumped up. By early November the lake is full and the frost may come.
