Andalucía's only permanent natural-ice rink

The Pista de Hielo Palacio de Deportes Benalmádena began as the municipal Club de Hielo, a sports complex that also contains a pool and a gym. After a legionella outbreak traced to the rink's cooling towers in July 2007, the complex stayed closed until October 2007, and the rink reopened to the public on 26 September 2008 once a closed-circuit air-cooling system replaced them.

The Palacio de Deportes is the former Club de Hielo. Its rink sat idle after UTE Benalmádena, the previous operator, fell into insolvency, until PDB Sports took over the municipal facility. The reopening party featured a skating exhibition and a visit from the Spanish junior champion Cristian Vaquero, and local press describes the rink as the only permanent natural-ice rink under cover in Andalucía.

The ice covers 650 square metres under a wooden roof, with a skating school, ice hockey and free-skate sessions. A refit for the 2024-25 season added LED lighting, a painted floor under the ice, new perimeter barriers and a refinished roof, and the rink works with the Andalusian Winter Sports Federation on hockey. The 2025 season opened on 17 October with a charity theme.
