Braunlage's Eisstadion, a cable-roofed ice hall opened in 1974

The Eisstadion in Braunlage was handed over on 31 August 1974 and cost 7.8 million Deutschmarks. The Wolfenbüttel firm Vetterkind built it. The ice measures 60 by 30 metres, to international rules, and the stands hold 2,548 people, 1,273 seated and 1,275 standing.

The roof is the stadium's best-known feature. Two slanted steel pylons, 44 and 49 metres long, hold up the 4,000 square metres of roofing on bundled steel cables, with glued timber beams under trapezoidal sheet metal, and four reinforced-concrete corner pillars steady it from the sides.

Ammonia pumped through about 22 kilometres of pipe under the rink freezes the surface. Ice hockey with the Harzer Falken, figure skating, ice dance, speed skating and ice stock sport all use the hall.
