A fir-lined rink on the Kohlmarkt in the heart of Braunschweig
The New Yorker Eiszauber is the winter rink on the Kohlmarkt in Braunschweig's city centre, framed by fir trees and food stalls in white pavilion tents. In the evening crackling fire baskets and illuminations give the square a romantic winter mood.
Skating is organised in sessions of 75 minutes, with a short break between them for ice care, and a ticket is valid for one session. School classes and kindergartens can use the ice in the mornings after registering, and the Hüttenzauber next to the rink serves mulled wine, fresh waffles and hot soups.
The rink is run each season by a local event agency and sponsored by the New Yorker fashion company. Alongside open skating it also offers Eisstockschießen for groups and gift vouchers, and it closes for the year on 10 January.
