The Leithana sports area in Bruck an der Leitha describes its ice hall as the first privately run, environmentally friendly ice hall in Central Europe that stays open all year. Its refrigeration technology runs without ammonia and is meant to give a good sheet of ice on 365 days a year.
The hall is built around a Skatemill, a skating trainer that works on the treadmill principle; the operator calculates that one hour on it is worth about 20 hours on ordinary ice. It calls the hall suitable for everyone, from children to experienced hockey players.
The Icehawks hockey club trains girls and boys in the hall, from kindergarten age up to juniors. Public skating is held on dated days that the operator lists in the news section of its website, and the hall belongs to a sports area that also includes a newly opened hotel.
