Bytom's "Stodoła": Polonia's rink since 1966, rebuilt in 2021

A citizens' committee for building an artificial ice rink was set up in Bytom on 20 February 1962; the foundation stone was laid on 19 July 1965 and the rink opened on 5 November 1966. Polonia Bytom's hockey players had until then played on an open rink in the city park, opened in 1950.

The new rink got its roof only twelve years after it opened, and its makeshift character earned it the nickname "Stodoła", the Barn. Polonia's players won Polish championship titles there in 1984, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990 and 1991.

A thorough rebuild began in 2019, and the new rink was officially opened in June 2021 with stands for more than 1,400 people. Public sessions have a marked zone where skaters may spin and do tricks, and the number of people skating at once is limited to 150.
