The 5,536-seat ice palace Cherepovets promised in 2003 and opened on Town Day in 2006

Cherepovets Ice Palace was first mentioned officially on 12 September 2003, and on 19 May 2004 the governor of the Vologda region decided that the city would get a six-thousand-seat ice arena. Construction was paid for jointly by the regional and city budgets, and Finnish builders won the tender. The arena was accepted for use in October 2006 at 70 Oktyabrsky Prospekt and took its first visitors on Town Day, 4 November 2006.

The palace seats 5,536 spectators and has 13,690 square metres of floor. From 2007 to 2010 it hosted amateur ice karting for the Ice Palace Cup, the first karting contests indoors on artificial ice. In July 2009 a second venue, the Almaz sports and concert hall, joined the same municipal institution.

The palace takes pride, in its own words, in its perfectly flat and transparent ice.
