A natural ice rink in the Twickelse Bos

The rink of IJsclub Delden lies in a spot in the Twickelse Bos that the club calls unique. The insulating position among the trees often lets the ice stay open longer than on other rinks. The club celebrated its 90th anniversary in the 1985/86 season and its 100th in 1995/96.

Electric light came late. In 1956/57 the provincial council did not approve electrification of the surrounding countryside, so the track still had no lighting, and in 1960/61 the club could use a well-lit track from 19 to 29 December. When the Oelerbeek was rerouted in 1966/67 there was too little water, and the fire brigade flooded the track.

Ice is rare and varies. The 1979/80 season brought 24 ice days and 25,000 visitors, and the Elfstedentocht winters gave 19 days in 1984/85 and 18 in 1996/97. In the past ten years the rink has opened seven times. The clubhouse was modernised in 2019/20 with a new counter and an extension for extra workspace.
