Built in 1985-86 for the winter Giochi della Gioventù, with a 60 by 30 metre Olympic-size rink
Currently out of season The palaghiaccio's home page says it is about to reopen and that the opening date will be announced on its social pages; the 2026-27 turns are not posted yet (the orari page still shows season 2025/26). Official schedule update
The Palaghiaccio di Fanano was built in 1985-86 to a design by the architect Stefano Marchigiani and was finished in time to host the winter edition of the 1986 Giochi della Gioventù. It is an indoor ice stadium with an Olympic-size rink of 60 by 30 metres, in the middle of the town.
The ice was first covered by sheets stretched across on steel cables, with no concrete floor. The changing rooms were enlarged and the hillside stand built in 1987-88, and in 1989 a laminated-timber roof was added by the South Tyrol firm Holtz-Bau, to a structural design by the engineer Marchetti Rossi.
The Polisportiva Fanano amateur sports association runs the building. The rink opens from October to April for free skating and for figure-skating and ice hockey courses, and Hockey Fanano has senior, junior, pre-competitive and women's sections. In the other seasons the hall hosts inline hockey, roller hockey, volleyball, fencing and other sports.
