Artificial-ice rink in Gars am Kamp, opened 27 November 1994
Before 1994, skating in Gars am Kamp meant natural ice, first on the tennis court in the Kurpark and later next to the football pitch, and it was in use only a few days a year. In 1994 Josef Wiesinger applied to found a skating club, and the artificial-ice rink opened on 27 November 1994 with deputy provincial governor and sports councillor Lise Prokop among the guests. The changing rooms and canteen sit in the basement of the primary school's gym.
The hockey club Garser Pinguins was founded in 1995 and took over training and all hockey matters, and the ice stock shooters became a club of their own in 1996. At the opening, friends from Gars am Inn gave the club ice stocks as a welcome gift. In summer 1999 an open hall went up over the ice, built together by the four clubs based in the sports centre.
The season ran from early November to the end of February and became a fixed point of winter sport for the municipality, and Saturday evenings are disco time on the ice. The rink marked 20 years in November 2014. In July 2020 founder, builder and chairman Josef Wiesinger stepped back after 26 years, and Cornelia Grabl took over as chair.
