A 1919 skating club in Gorredijk with a large, floodlit rink among the trees

IJsclub Hâld Moed was founded in 1919 and has grown over the years into an association of about 800 members. On its large, attractive rink many short-track and long-track races have been held, and famous names such as Sjoukje Dijkstra have given skating demonstrations.

The rink lies sheltered among trees and its whole surface has professional lighting, so it can also be used in the evening when there is ice. In the clubhouse it is always warm and cosy, with hot chocolate to warm up before the next round on the ice.

The club admits it has not always been possible to open the rink for skaters in Gorredijk and the surrounding area. The general committee has eight members and is helped on ice days by many volunteers.
