Gstaad's village rink, skated on since 1908/09, artificial ice since 1998

Ice skating was the main winter attraction in Gstaad in the early twentieth century. The 3,500 square metre village ice rink was built in the 1908/09 season, and in 1912 Oskar Reichenbach's Eisbahn AG added another 5,000 square metres, expanding it to 11,000 square metres. In 1998 the Eisbahn AG installed an artificial rink on its Unter-Gstaad property, a smaller venue that depends less on the climate for skating and hockey.

Hockey at the village rink is a lively part of Gstaad's winter, and HC Gstaad-Saanenland is among the partners the Eisbahn AG consults about the area, alongside the Beach Volleyball Major Series, the private school Le Rosey, the Swiss Open tennis tournament and the tourism organisation. The municipality of Saanen is the leaseholder of the site.

In July 2019 the Eisbahn AG said that major and minor repairs to the rink and a renovation of the grandstand were up for discussion, and in 2020 it reported that the infrastructure on the area must be renovated. In 2021 the municipality decided that all indoor events should take place at the Sportzentrum and all outdoor events on the ice rink area.
