Ishidoriya Ice Arena is the only skating rink in Hanamaki and a rare one in Iwate Prefecture. It opened in 1995. The ice measures 60 by 30 metres, and from May to October the site is used for tennis courts, outdoor competitions and events.
In January 1998 the rink hosted the figure skating competition of the National Sports Festival. The 2016 National Sports Festival ice hockey tournament was played there, and the University of Tokyo ice hockey club held training camps at the rink from 2014 to 2018. In 2009 it became a training base ahead of the All-Japan championships, where Miki Ando and Nobunari Oda practised.
Local schools use the rink for winter physical education lessons. Youth sports clubs play ice hockey and figure skating there, and a boot ice hockey tournament returned after it could not be held during the pandemic.
