Hannover's artificial-ice stadium since 1959
The Eisstadion am Pferdeturm opened on 7 November 1959 with a figure-skating event in front of more than 3,000 spectators. In the summer of 1957 the city's chief administrator, Karl Wiechert, had given the RESG sports club a plot at the Pferdeturm so that an artificial-ice stadium could be built.
It is an indoor ice hall with room for 4,608 spectators, mostly on standing terraces. The Hannover Indians of the Oberliga Nord and the Pferdeturm Hunters play their home games here. The Indians' present club was founded in 1998 as Kleefelder Eissportverein and took its current name in 2006; the rink's page puts the average at 2,800 spectators per game day.
In 2023 the refrigeration plant and the ice surface, boards included, were rebuilt, and the rink says energy use fell with no change in ice quality.
