The Am Großen Anger ice stadium opened in 1982 and has seated up to 2,500 for local hockey.
Haßfurt's ice stadium went into operation in 1982 under the town's administration, and the Stadtwerk Haßfurt took over management of the leisure centre in 1995. The ice is shared between the public, hobby groups, schools and the hockey players of the ESC Haßfurt, and more than 50,000 visitors are counted every year. The stadium at Am Großen Anger has room for 2,500.
Ice hockey in town was run from 1983 to 2004 by the ERC Haßfurt, an ice and roller sports club, which reached the fourth-tier Regionalliga in 1992. It moved up to the third-tier 2. Liga Süd in 1995, when Wanderers Germering declined promotion for financial reasons, and later played in the Oberliga as the Sharks, reaching the playoff semi-final once, in 2002/03. In November 2004 the club filed for insolvency and its league team stopped playing; the ESC Haßfurt, founded in December 2004, is the club that plays here now.
