Built in 1983-84 around Heinola's artificial-ice rink

Heinolan jäähalli, marketed as Versowood-areena, was built in 1983 and 1984 around an earlier artificial-ice rink. It was opened in August 1984. The first match was a sold-out friendly between the senior national teams of Finland and Sweden, and the first official match was a 5-6 win for KalPa over the home side Peliitat in front of 666 spectators.

Sports rooms for martial arts clubs and other groups were built under the hall. A bowling alley was planned beside it too, but the bowlers withdrew during planning and built the Valopallo bowling hall less than a kilometre away. The hall originally had 2,975 spectator places: 2,686 in the main stand, 1,486 seated and 1,200 standing, and 289 in separate end stands. The end stands have since been removed and 1,800 places remain.

The hall took the Versowood name from the sponsor of Heinola's Mestis team Peliitat after the team rose to Mestis for 2006-07. It has never been thoroughly renovated, although small changes have been made several times.
