Combibaan Hengelo: a 400 m asphalt track used for skating on wheels in summer and natural ice in winter

Public skating at Combibaan Hengelo: the next 7 days

Currently out of season Combibaan Hengelo is a 400 m track in the Weusthag park that becomes a natural-ice rink once there has been enough frost. The traffic-light status panel on its home page last shows a measurement of 11 January 2026 (ice 2.5 cm, red light); nothing newer is posted for the coming winter. The club needs at least 3.5 cm of ice over the whole track before opening to the public, and the page says the colour of the traffic light always decides. No sessions are listed here. Checked 11 October 2026. Official schedule update

A 400 m summer skate track in the Weusthag park that turns into a natural-ice rink in frost

Combibaan Hengelo is 400 m long and 10 m wide, with an inner field of about 4,000 m2. The base is an asphalt construction: in summer the track is used for skating on wheels, in winter as a natural-ice rink.

Before a frost the track is flooded, on average about 5 cm. For the public opening the ice must be at least 3.5 cm thick over the whole length and width of the track, and that thickness is also needed for the club's Zamboni, a machine that prepares the ice.

Members of the Hengelose IJsclub skate here free. The club's news recalls the first day of natural ice in January 2024, when many club members and more than 1,100 other visitors came to skate on the track.
