A 60 by 30 metre rink in the Yamashin Swimming Arena, built for the 2002 school championships
Kasamatsu Sports Park was built as the main stadium for the 29th National Sports Festival held in Ibaraki in 1974. The Yamashin Swimming Arena, an indoor pool that doubles as an ice rink, was added in March 2002 for that year's national high-school championships, and the rink opened to skaters on 2 November 2002.
The ice measures 60 by 30 metres, 1,800 square metres, beside a 50 by 25 metre main pool. The skating season runs from late September to the end of March, and the whole park closed after the March 2011 earthquake damaged its facilities.
The rink also hosts events: this autumn it is due to stage a clinic with Nobunari Oda and Wakaba Higuchi, the All Japan Novice Cup short-track meet in mid-November and the All Japan Junior Figure Skating Championships a week later.
