Iisalmi's ice hall from 1990, known as Kankaan monttu and home of Mestis club IPK
Iisalmi's ice hall was completed in 1990 and is also called Kankaan jäähalli, with the nickname Kankaan monttu. It is the home rink of Iisalmen Peli-Karhut, founded in 1966, whose men's team plays in Mestis after winning the Suomi-sarja final against Imatran Ketterä in 2016. The hall was renovated that same year because of the promotion.
The hall's walls carry the club's history. The IPK Hall of Fame wall hangs on the wall along the running track, where six honoured Bears were first raised in spring 2023. The jerseys of four club icons are also hung there: Risto Kurkinen 24, Pekka Huttunen 5, Jarmo Ylisipola 25 and Janne Svensk 75.
In 2023 the city weighed a new competition hall with stands on the site of the current outdoor ice at Kankaan monttu, with project planning proposed to begin that autumn. The existing hall was judged to be in fairly decent condition.
