Formerly the open-air Eisstadion Inzell; roofed in 2009-2011 for 36 million euros
The Max Aicher Arena, formerly the Eisstadion Inzell, is an indoor artificial-ice rink with a 400-metre speed-skating oval and an ice-hockey infield. It stood open to the sky until the end of 2009. Inzell's first 400-metre artificial rink was built in 1965, and a complete refurbishment followed in 1985.
From September 2009 a new roofed stadium for 36 million euros was built over the old open-air rink. Training began in December 2010 and the stadium was officially opened in March 2011 with the single-distance speed-skating world championships. The Freilassing builder Max Aicher secured the naming rights for 20 years, and the stadium holds 6,000 spectators.
The arena counts among the fastest speed-skating tracks in the world. The Frillensee, whose frozen surface allowed a regular 400-metre track, made Inzell a centre of German speed skating from 1959.
