Built in 2007, the only Spanish rink with two sheets
The Pabellón de Hielo de Jaca was built in 2007 for the European Youth Olympic Festival. It is the only ice building in Spain with two sheets: an Olympic-size one of 60 by 30 metres and a recreational one of 50 by 20 metres.
The building is a toroidal dome whose membrane alternates opaque panels, glass and steel. The dome takes its compactness from the neighbouring Peña Oroel and the Pyrenean peaks and meets the ground like a drop of water, so the building has no façades. Fixed seating is for 1,900 spectators and can be extended to 3,579.
Club Hielo Jaca, founded in 1972 when the town's first ice rink opened, is the only Spanish team to have played in every national league from 1972 to 2016. The pavilion is also Spain's reference rink for curling and has hosted the national championships since 2017.
