Opened in 1977 on rubble from the Second World War
The Eissporthalle Kassel opened in 1977, opened by the entrepreneur couple Simon and Edith Kimm, who had discovered their love of skating on a winter holiday. It was built on rubble from the Second World War with concrete parts from its own production, and started with 3,800 places.
Renovations and extensions between 1995 and 1997 made room for up to 6,000 visitors when the ice was covered and seated for concerts. Fans cheered goals from the legendary Heuboden. The hall saw a German ice hockey runner-up title in 1997 and a DEL2 championship in 2008, and concerts from Udo Jürgens and Nena to Queen on their 1982 tour.
Since summer 2021 the hall has been going through a comprehensive modernisation and now carries the name Probonio Arena as a multifunction arena. Skating has always been part of the building.
