The 1969 ice hall that opened two years before the Spodek
The ice hall next to the Spodek was the first building of the complex to open, in 1969, two years before the arena itself. The Spodek's design was widened to include a gym, an ice rink, a hotel and a swimming pool; construction ran from 1964 to 1971, and the arena was officially opened on 8 May 1971 in front of more than 12,000 guests.
The ice measures 30 by 60 metres, the stands seat 1,182 and the hall has a volume of 35,500 cubic metres; up to 150 people can skate in one session. The rink is also used for training and for league ice hockey matches.
Public sessions run in one-hour rounds. The operator offers student Tuesdays and Thursdays, special discos on ice for skaters aged ten and over, and some Saturday evening sessions that run a quarter of an hour longer at no extra charge.
