IJsvereniging Bargeroosterveen: a volunteer-run natural-ice rink in Klazienaveen
Currently out of season IJsvereniging Bargeroosterveen's natural-ice rink at Veenhoeksweg 56 in Klazienaveen is closed for now: the club's home page says 'De ijsbaan is Gesloten' and its latest news, from 5 January 2026, says heavy snowfall left no skating ice in sight. The page also says the rink needs 6 cm of ice to open, and that skaters should report at the clubhouse before lacing up. It points to the club's Facebook page for winter news. No sessions are listed here. Checked 11 October 2026. Official schedule update
The natural-ice rink at Veenhoeksweg 56 in Klazienaveen is run entirely by volunteers and the members of the ice club. Years before the present rink was laid out, the neighbourhood of Barger Oosterveen, also called the 6th block, a name from the peat-colony days, made a rink on a meadow by the Oude Dordsedijk.
The club's news shows how it decides to open. In late December 2025 the ice averaged 3.5 cm and the club needs 6 cm. On 28 December it opened at 10:00 and watched how long the ice would last; later that day it reported that the whole rink could not be used and that skaters should report at the clubhouse before putting on their skates.
The rink closed again the same day. In winter the club asks people to follow its news on Facebook.
