A village rink that began as a decorative pond at the Christmas market
The Eishalle Lauenau is a volunteer-run rink with 900 square metres of ice, 15,000 metres of cooling pipes and around 650 pairs of skates to hire. The association behind it exists to build and run an ice sports facility.
It began modestly. At first only a small frozen pond was planned as decoration for the Christmas market, but the idea grew quickly into a project that is still described as unique in the region and attracts well over 30,000 visitors a year.
Inside the hall the cafeteria sells snacks and warm drinks during public sessions, and on selected evenings between November and February there are Eisdisco nights. The season runs from early November to the end of February, with Monday as the weekly rest day.
