IJsclub Zederik: 125 winters, several moves and a land rink that is usually first to open
Currently out of season IJsclub Zederik's natural-ice rink at Zederikkade 4 in Lexmond opens only when the frost allows. The club's latest news posts, from the 2025/26 winter, report the rink opening on 27 December and 11 January and say it has to be seen whether it freezes hard enough to open again; nothing is posted for the coming winter yet. No sessions are listed here. Checked 11 October 2026. Official schedule update
IJsclub Zederik was founded on 5 January 1887 and looks back on 125 winters with or without ice. Short-track races once drew hundreds of spectators, and turf skating, known as schoonrijden, was very popular, with prize-givings packed into the local cafes.
The rink has moved several times: first beside the old Zederik by the tunnel in the Zouwendijk, then on the Wiel, back on the old Zederik, and later on a meadow with a stone building. Today it lies at Zederikkade 4 in Lexmond, where the second clubhouse is due to be enlarged.
The club counts about 800 members. Mostly the long-track races draw attention now, and the club says it is usually the first in the region to open, thanks to its land rink.
