Saxony-Anhalt's largest mobile open-air rink, set up in a courtyard of the Festung Mark
Currently out of season No dates for winter 2026/27 are posted yet. The rink's own pages still show the previous season (public skating 10 January to 15 February 2026), so no public skating sessions are listed until the new programme is published. Official schedule update
Eiszeit began in January 2017, when a 600 square metre rink was laid out for six weeks in the lit-up inner courtyard of the Festung Mark. The fortress and its two courtyards stand against Magdeburg's medieval city wall, in the middle of the inner city.
The rink is mobile, and at about 500 square metres of ice it is Saxony-Anhalt's largest mobile open-air rink. Cooling hoses under the surface keep it skatable in warmer weather, and the ice is resurfaced every two to three hours or as needed. Stronger skaters can use the space along the old city wall, and the youngest take their first steps with Lauflern-Pinguine, the penguin-shaped walking aids.
Companies and clubs can hire the whole ice for Eisstockschießen, and a lounge in the tent serves drinks and snacks.
