A 650 m2 covered, open-sided rink on the Markt, with frame skating for children with disabilities
Currently out of season The rink's page says it is open again from Wednesday 25 November 2026 to Saturday 9 January 2027, on a covered transparent rink; public sessions appear here from the opening day. Checked on 4 October 2026. Official schedule update
IJsbaan Middelburg, the winter event of Zeeland, is a covered, transparent rink of 650 square metres with open sides and an open head, on the Markt in the middle of the town. The organisation says between 15,000 and 20,000 skaters visit each winter.
The rink pays part of its costs from its own income; the rest depends on contributions from funds, governments and sponsors. Besides free skating the rink offers curling, ice-bubble football, human curling, ice golf, prikslee hockey and ice-sculpture workshops.
The rink has introduced frame skating, an initiative that makes skating accessible to children with physical and/or multiple disabilities. It works with Stichting het Gehandicapte Kind, and events such as the Heldendagen let children from special education skate with their families.

Skates can be hired as part of the ticket; your own skates must be ice hockey or figure skates, and a Bobby the Seal skating aid can be hired by the hour.

Skaters just walk in: reserving is not needed for skating alone, only for company outings, children's parties and the curling competition.
