Covered in 2006, after a floodlit open rink from 1978
The Miskolci Jégcsarnok in the Népkert is a covered multi-purpose arena used mainly for ice sports, and it is the home arena of the top-flight club DVTK Jegesmedvék. Building of the original open, floodlit hockey rink began in August 1977, and it was handed over on 29 October 1978 at a cost of 20 million forints; it was renovated in 2000 for 100 million.
The roofed hall opened to the public on 2 April 2006 with a show night that featured the Miskolc-born European champion Júlia Sebestyén and the local synchronised skating club. The next day it hosted the 2006 IIHF Under-18 World Championship, Division I. The city paid the whole 1.1 billion forint cost, and the hall has 1,304 seats and lighting rated at 1,200 to 1,400 lux, enough for television coverage.
It has staged Hungarian Cup finals in 2006, 2011, 2013, 2018 and 2020, and its ice measures 1,800 square metres.
