The Muhos ice hall was newly completed in November 1998. In 2021 it was expanded and renovated to add functionality and energy efficiency, and the year before, its refrigeration plant had been replaced with a carbon-dioxide one. The municipal council had added a further budget line to the investment programme to carry out the renovation in 2021.
The project was named Sports Facility of the Year at the Tampere sports facility fair, the 19th year the Gymtec & Sportec fair has chosen a winner. The winner was picked by Mikko Helasvuo, the Ministry of Education and Culture's building counsellor for sports facilities, and the grounds included green values, the reachability of the sports facility network and how meaningful exercise is in the spaces.
The hall suits tournaments because of its supporting spaces: it has four dressing rooms with showers and two without, plus café space and an office. Public skating sessions are held there regularly.
