Free-skating sessions on a year-round rink in the capital of the Arctic
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
Meteor is the ice arena on Kolsky Prospekt that Murmansk waited almost ten years for: the city's only Ice Palace could not cope with its load, and the hockey and figure skating schools fought for ice time. It became the first building in the history of the Murmansk Region put up as a public-private partnership.
The municipal rink is meant to serve the pupils of the children's sports schools and local people all year round, and a hundred people can train on it at once. It hosts training, figure skating shows and tournaments in bandy and ice hockey, and it was created first of all as a training base for hockey and figure skating; the remaining ice time goes to free skating.
Visitors find bright corridors, a large rink with matt, perfectly even ice and stands for spectators and fans. Some of the posted sessions allow skaters to practise sports elements without equipment.
