Domed ice stadium at the Waldbad, reopened in October 2017

Ice sport has a long tradition in Niesky, where hockey has been played for more than 60 years. Games were played at the Stadion der Einheit, the Moryteich ice stadium, from November 1954 to 1959, and from 1960 on a natural-ice stadium at the Waldbad. A new open artificial-ice stadium was built in 1992-94 and reopened in 1994.

The stadium at the Waldbad reopened at the end of October 2017 after a 20-month build, and its typical domed roof is what sets it apart.

The Eislaufverein Niesky was refounded in 1994 and has more than 250 members, among the largest clubs in the town. Its first men's team, the Tornados, plays in the Regionalliga Ost before an average of 550 spectators. More than 100 children train with the club, which also fields a reserve side, a seniors team and an ice stock section, and works with 20 childcare facilities.
