A 400 m natural-ice track of about 1.5 hectares around the inline skating track at Nijeveen

The natural-ice rink of IJs- en Skeelerclub Nijeveen lies on the club grounds on the Schuurmansweg: about 1.5 hectares around the inline skating track. In a frost period it makes a pleasant 400 metre skating lap, and the floodlights let you skate in the evening too.

The clubhouse is close by for a break with pea soup, smoked sausage and hot chocolate. The ice masters measure the ice thickness to decide when it is safe to skate, and the club's news from the winter of 2025/26 follows the process: promising ice that was just not thick enough, a measurement of 3.5 cm in many places, and finally a closure because footprints had frozen hard in the snow.

The club floods the rink from 1 November to 1 March and opens it once the ice is between 7 and 8 centimetres thick, with updates on its news page and home page.
