The ice hall of Novi Sad's Spens centre

Ledena dvorana Spens is the ice hall of the SPENS sports and business centre in Novi Sad. The operator's history says the ice hall and an eight-lane bowling alley were finished in 1983, two years after the first parts of the centre were ready for the 1981 table tennis World Championships, which the city had bid for in 1978.

The centre stands where the Novkabel cable factory used to be. A 1974 competition began the project, the design came from architects of the Faculty of Architecture in Sarajevo, and about 70 per cent of the money came from a levy paid by the citizens of Novi Sad. In 1984 a gallery of contemporary art moved into the first floor of the building and stayed until 1999.

Public skating in the ice hall is run in citizens' sessions, and the operator announces each season's timetable and prices on its news page. Its skating-times page currently asks visitors to follow its posts for the start of the new season, so check there for dates before you go.
