Okaya's international-size rink in the Yamabiko Forest, a national training base for para ice hockey

The Yamabiko Ice Arena is a 30 by 60 metre indoor rink recognised for international competition, where official figure skating, ice hockey and short-track matches can be held. Its ice is described as a record-producing surface, and since March 2016 the arena has been a designated reinforcement base for para ice hockey.

The rink opens in June and closes in February or March, and it stays open through the summer for training camps, so public sessions pause from mid-July to late September. In October public skating is mostly on weekdays, chiefly in the late afternoon and evening, and from November weekends and holidays are added.

Each month the rink posts a calendar with the hours of every day, marking the days given to hockey tournaments, lessons or maintenance as closed to the public.
