A tent rink under the Plechelmus, built by Junior Kamer Oldenzaal since 2015

In 2015 Junior Kamer Oldenzaal built a rink in the town centre of Oldenzaal for the first time. Since 2018 the Stichting IJsbaan Oldenzaal has done it, with seven former Junior Kamer members on its board, and 2026 is the tenth edition.

The rink stands on the Plechelmusplein beside the Plechelmus Basilica for more than five weeks. Its main sponsors are Hema Oldenzaal and Jumbo Kuipers, with a tent sponsor, and the business curling competition is described as the driving force behind the ice.

The competition has filled November and December with curling for ten years, and 99 teams play this year. Oldenzaal curling is played without a broom, unlike the version on television. The organisers present the rink as five weeks of skating fun for the town's young people and a celebration for young and old.
