Oudenhoorn's volunteer-run natural-ice club: a scribble rink, a 400 m track and a warm clubhouse
Currently out of season IJsclub Nooitgedacht's natural-ice rink in Oudenhoorn opens only when there is ice: the club's home page shows whether the rink is open or closed, and currently shows both the scribble rink and the 400 m track as closed. No sessions are listed here. Checked 10 October 2026. Official schedule update
IJsclub "Nooitgedacht" has kept skating alive in Oudenhoorn since 1963, when the association's statutes and house rules were set down before a notary. From the start its volunteers have had a single aim: to make the chance of skating as large as possible. The club lies in the middle of Voorne-Putten, and in 2023 it celebrated its 60th anniversary.
The ice here is natural; in the club's words it is not Thialf ice but natural ice from Oudenhoorn soil, built up through long effort by the volunteers. A 1,200 m2 hard-surfaced scribble rink can be skated on after little frost once it has had the right treatment, and in 2018 NPO Radio 2 broadcast three hours live from the ice under the headline of the most beautiful natural ice rink in South Holland.
The clubhouse gives skaters a warm place to change, with hot and cold drinks and chips, a men's and a women's toilet and a first-aid room for the tumbles that come with learning to skate. A further room stores the sweeping machines that keep snow off the ice, and the volunteers work summer and winter, day and night.

The club does not hire out skates; on its January 2026 opening day it sharpened skates between 11:00 and 14:00 and sold new and second-hand pairs.
