Piteå HC's home hall, built after an ice tent blew away in 1978 on the old Kvarnvallen grounds.
Ice hockey in Piteå began on an outdoor rink on the old Kvarnvallen grounds. It was replaced by an ice tent that blew away in a violent storm in December 1978, and Piteå IF had to play the rest of that season's home matches in Björknäshallen in Boden and in Luleå's Delfinen. The new hall that followed was a rush job and soon needed a thorough modernisation.
At the start of the new millennium the newly renovated hall was ready, with room for 2,550 people, and it opened with a sold-out concert by Tomas Ledin. Länsförsäkringar bought the naming rights in 2007. A small red windmill on the roof above the entrance recalls the old mill on the Kvarnbacken area that gave the arena its earlier name.
Today the hockey hall is the home arena of Piteå HC, and the municipality describes it as an ice stadium with 2,500 places, 1,000 of them seated.
