A full-size 400 m track that is built up every winter

Schaatsbaan Rotterdam has stood on the fields of RHV Leonidas since 2013, after it won the city's Stadsinitiatief that year. It is a mobile but full-size 400 metre track, put up and taken down every year.

The covered 400 metre track has official ISU dimensions. Beside it are an 800 square metre covered Funbaan, which suits all types of skater, and a curling lane. The rink says its design uses 60 percent less energy than traditional rinks.

Attendance has grown from 150,000 visitors in the first year to about 250,000 in recent years, and the rink runs a free school-skating programme for more than 40,000 children a year. It belongs to A Nice Group. In July 2026 the rink and Rotterdam The Hague Airport announced an intention to move it to the airport's car park, opening there in autumn 2028 if the study turns out well, because the ground at RHV Leonidas is subsiding.
