A Friesian ice club founded in 1877, now on a 400 m track shared with cyclists and rollerskaters

Iisclub Foarút was founded in November 1877, when five villagers took the initiative, and its first rink was a low-lying meadow on the edge of the village. The early years brought members' races and races for schoolchildren, spekrijderijen for less well-off villagers, and spectacular horse-sleigh races.

For some seventy years the rink moved between sites outside the village, and only in 1950 did it reach the centre. In 1998 the municipality of Achtkarspelen decided to use that Green Heart for housing, and in January 2010 a new rink was opened.

Today's 400 m track at the Blauknopke belongs to the Feansterbanen sports park, built together with the cycling committee, the roller-skating club and H&I, with a heated canteen, changing rooms and toilets. The roller club uses it in summer and the ice club in winter.
