South Estonia's year-round rink inside Lõunakeskus
Astri Arena is South Estonia's largest and most modern indoor rink and the only one open all year, set inside the Lõunakeskus complex on the southern edge of Tartu. A full-size ice hall inside a building like this is, in the arena's own words, unique in the world, and the complex itself opened in 2001.
In summer 2025 the arena was refurbished, with the rink barrier system and the visitor area completely renewed. It holds about 600 people, and besides public sessions it hosts ice discos, family events, competitions and training for skaters of every age.
Public sessions last 45 minutes, and skaters circle against the clock hands. Children up to the age of seven must wear a helmet, and because the rink is indoors it can be used in any weather, on a sunny summer day as well as a crisp winter morning.
