Terwolde's natural-ice club since 1921: a rink on the Kadijk, a storm-wrecked clubhouse and rare days of ice
Currently out of season IJsclub Terwolde's natural-ice rink at Kadijk 7 opens only when there is ice, and the club says to check its home page first. When open it is normally open Monday to Friday 14:00 to 17:00 and 19:00 to 21:30 (floodlit), on Saturday afternoon and evening and on Sunday 11:00 to 17:00. No sessions are listed here. Checked 10 October 2026. Official schedule update
IJsclub Terwolde was founded in February 1921, after a few villagers proposed a club in the winter of 1920/21, and its very first ice party ended with a surplus. In 1964 the club could finally rent 1.6 hectares of meadow on the Kadijk from the Beumer family, and its rink has been there ever since.
A club cabin was placed at the back of the rink in 1967, but an autumn storm destroyed the clubhouse in 1990 and the board spent that ice season in a caravan; a new clubhouse followed in September 1991. The club's season-by-season history records a super ice period with as many as 1,500 visitors in a day, and skating from 11 to 14 February in the centenary year 2020-21.
Ice is rare here: 2023-24 brought one fantastic skating day, 11 January, from 9 to 21:00, and 2025-26 one day on 11 January 2026 with very moderate ice, opened especially for kids. In September 2024 the dike was strengthened and new roof panels were laid on the clubhouse.
