Trento's ice stadium: built open-air in 1994, roofed in 2002/3, with 960 seats and a 60 by 30 metre ice
The Palaghiaccio in via Fersina in Trento was built in 1994 as an open-air ice stadium and completed with a roof in 2002/3. Its ice measures 60 by 30 metres, and the stands have 960 seats. The hall can take about 300 people on the ice and 960 on the stands, and the city operator Asis runs it.
Ice hockey, figure skating, speed skating and short track all use the ice. Hockey in Trento restarted in 2009 and has grown strongly since, the Circolo pattinatori artistici has produced many Italian champions, and an amateur hockey group led since 1996 by the same president draws players of every age, including university students.
In the year reported in September 2016, the clubs used the ice for 2,150 hours in total, 12 percent more than in 2014, and more than 500 members were registered. From September 2023 until 31 August 2026 the building carried the name Maccani Ice Arena under a three-year sponsorship.
